Blast Near Italian Embassy In Yemen

An explosion has been heard near the Italian embassy in Yemen, according to witnesses.

A security official in the capital, Sanaa, said the blast had apparently been caused by a hand grenade or a bomb.

Navy Re-establishes 4th Fleet to Promote Future Interoperability

“The Navy, and probably the Department of Defense, recognized the importance of the region to the south of the United States that includes the Caribbean and western side of the Atlantic and the eastern side of the Pacific and all our partners down there,” Navy Rear Adm. James W. Stevenson Jr., commander of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command, said in a teleconference with online journalists and “bloggers.”

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced the 4th Fleet’s re-establishment April 24.

Gates: Second US carrier deployed to Gulf is “reminder” to Tehran

During a visit to Mexico City, US defense secretary Robert Gates said April 29 that the arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Gulf should be seen as a reminder of US military power in the region. He flatly denied the US was preparing the ground for military strikes against Iran.

“The size of our naval presence in the Gulf rises and falls constantly,” he said. “This deployment has been planned for a long time. I don’t think we will have two carriers there for a protracted period of time. So I don’t see it as an escalation. I think it could be seen, though, as a reminder.”

CIA chief confirms Syrian reactor could produce fuel for 1-2 weapons – not bombs

Soldiers Help Create ‘Daughters of Iraq’ Program

Soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division are working with Iraqi army troops to help create a Daughters of Iraq program to complement the work done by the Sons of Iraq.

The Iraqi women in the program would be able to search other females at security checkpoints, expanding the capabilities of the Sons of Iraq currently manning the checkpoints.
