Oct. 18: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto is surrounded by supporters as she leaves her house for the airport in Dubai.

Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto returned to Pakistan on Thursday, ending eight years of exile and launching what she hopes will be a remarkable political comeback.

Bhutto was in tears as she descended the steps of the commercial flight that brought her home, where tens of thousands of flag-waving supporters waited to greet her.

Al-Qaida has placed a price on her head.
